Here’s how some audience members “graded” the San Joaquin, Calaveras, Mokelumne and Stanislaus rivers during yesterday’s inaugural State of Our Rivers symposium in downtown Stockton.
“Red,” obviously, means there are problems. “Green” means all is well. “Yellow” is somewhere inbetween.
You’ll note a lot more “red” votes than “green,” suggesting that a good chunk of the 60-70 people who attended yesterday’s forum tend to fall into a more pessimistic camp when it comes to the condition of our rivers. That might be explained by the fact that many in the crowd were environmental advocates, though there were also water supply officials, farm representatives and students present.
